52. When he started to paint, Duchamp mixed the colors on a glass palette and liked the visual effect of the colors when he turned the palette and looked at it from the other side. It was thanks to this method that he could overcome the traditional painting on canvas and start painting on glass. This episode is reported in Cabanne, ibid., p.56.
