"Friendly with Duchamp, she [Hedda Sterne] exhibited alongside Pollock and Newman, drank with de Kooning and held glorious debates with Harold Rosenberg. Greenberg chronicled her and "Life" magazine captured her several times, the most famous photo of which is Art History-101 iconic. She refused to be classified stylistically or put "in a box." During her 70-year career she appropriated from Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism and any other canon that served her." ...Source
